From our referral service to our training programs, we’ll provide Canadian nurse practitioners with the tools, knowledge and confidence you need to support your patients on their medical cannabis path.
As part of the Santé Cannabis community of practice, you have us in your corner.
Nurse practitioners in every province except Alberta can now prescribe medical cannabis. Unless the provincial order governing nurse practitioners established specific medical cannabis guidelines, applicable physician guidelines apply.
In Canada, the Cannabis Act and its Regulations govern medical cannabis access. The Regulations define healthcare practitioners as those professionals who can authorize (prescribe) medical cannabis, including both medical practitioners (doctors) and nurse practitioners in provinces where they are permitted under their scope of practice.
Referring patients to Santé Cannabis is an easy and efficient way to start learning about medical cannabis. Trusted by more than 77,000 doctors across Quebec, we take medical cannabis and the care of your patients very seriously.
Our experienced multidisciplinary clinical team of physicians and nurses will:
• Assess, prescribe, and develop personalized treatment plans for your patients
Provide continued follow-up for your patients’ medical cannabis treatments using our peer-reviewed model of care. (link to model of care publication)
• Please note that we assess and follow patients just for their medical cannabis and cannabinoid needs. Your patient remains under your care for all other medical needs.
• Once we’ve reached a beneficial and stable treatment with your patient, you’ll have the option to take on their medical cannabis care. Always there to support you, we’ll ensure that you and your patient have everything you need.
Patients must have previously attempted first-line pharmacological treatments and continue to experience uncontrolled symptoms, side effects, or insufficient symptom improvement.
We will assess your referral and contact the patient to schedule an appointment with one of our Santé Cannabis doctors within one month. Patients with a valid RAMQ card will incur no fees.
We will provide you with a comprehensive report of the appointment, which includes your patient’s medical cannabis treatment plan and prescription for cannabinoids, for your personal records.
Santé Cannabis is an approved teaching site by the Collège des médecins du Québec. We’re here for you with personalized training opportunities that take you beyond book learning to benefit from our years of clinical practice.
